SALARY:
$5,050.53 monthly or $29.14 per hour (after probationary
period)
ANNUAL CERTIFIED SALARY: $60,606.39
Standard probationary period of
6 months during which time salary is reduced by $50.00
per month.
SHIFT: Ability to work any shift including nights, weekends and holidays with varying days off.

SCHEDULE AND PAYDAYS: Criminal Investigators generally
work Monday thru Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM, but are subject
to call at any time depending on the investigation or
situation evolving. There are two pay days per month:
the 15th of each month and the last day of the month.
If pay day falls on a holiday or weekend; payroll will
be issued the business day preceding the holiday or
weekend. Any overtime is paid on the last paycheck of
the month.
LICENSE REQUIRED: Applicants for Deputy Sheriff positions
with Nolan County Sheriff's Office must already be licensed
as a Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law
Enforcement (TCOLE) or have already completed a TCOLE
approved Basic Peace Officer Academy, including having
successfully passed the state peace officer licensing
exam, and must meet all requirements to become fully
licensed as a Texas Peace Officer.
RESIDENCY: Investigators are required to reside within
the boundaries of Nolan County. However, variances for
living outside the county, within a limited radius,
may be approved on a case-by-case basis by the Sheriff
and may affect take home vehicle use.
LONGEVITY PAY: $5.00 per month for each
year of completed service after
five years;
6-10 years of service = $10.00 per month for each year
of completed service;
10-15 years of service = $15.00 per month for each year
of completed service and thereafter.
HEALTH, DENTAL AND LIFE INSURANCE: Excellent major medical
health insurance (currently Blue Cross/Blue Shield)
is provided for the employee at no cost. Dental insurance
coverage is also provided for the employee as well as
a $10,000 life insurance policy. Dependent health and
dental coverages are available with monthly premiums
paid by the employee.
LEAVE TIME: 80 hours of vacation per year. (120 hrs.
of vacation per year after 10 years of County service);
13 paid holidays (8 hrs. per holiday - 104 hours annually);
8 hours of sick leave accumulated per month up to a
maximum of 480 hours.
RETIREMENT: Texas County and District
Retirement System (TCDRS). Approximately 7% held out
of paycheck and Nolan County contributes $1.70 for each
dollar the employee has withheld.
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT: Uniforms, coats,
duty rig, ballistic vest, radio, weapons and Individually
assigned, very well equipped, take home fleet vehicles
are provided. Weapons include semi-auto pistols for
both on and off duty, semi-auto tactical patrol rifle
and tactical pump shotgun. Some specialty investigative
equipment provided.
NATURE OF WORK: CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR
enforces federal, state and local law by conducting
prompt and diligent investigations into offenses that
range anywhere from thefts, burglaries, robberies, computer
crimes, fraud, identity theft, sex offenses, crimes
against children, high level assaults, homicide, suicide,
and narcotics violations. Investigators obtain and execute
search and arrest warrants, write reports and provide
court testimony. Additionally, Investigators are responsible
for all crime scene processing, photography, forensic
evidence gathering and handling. Other tasks include
conducting extensive background investigations for applicants,
handling all Internal Investigations dealing with complaints
against employees, and maintaining the strict measures
for the receipt, handling, security, preservation and
disposition of all property and evidence. During large
scale criminal investigations, Investigators often work
in collaboration with other area, state and federal
law enforcement agencies in order to pool resources
and effectively solve crimes, apprehend high-threat
criminals, dismantle organized criminal organizations,
and reduce the threat of mass attacks in public places.
Work is performed under the direction of CID Sergeant,
and functions may vary by individual assignment.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Include
reading/writing (police reports, legal documents, etc.),
the ability to operate a computer (Windows), drive an
automobile, and the ability to communicate on phone
and in person. Some combination of sitting, twisting
the upper body, reaching, bending, stooping, standing,
walking, kneeling, the use of arms and hands for computer
input, crouching, climbing, and may involve the lifting,
carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy
objects (150+ pounds).
In addition, a Deputy Sheriff may be
required to use bodily force to gain control of individual(s),
be able to run, protect him/herself by employing defensive
tactics, and administer first aid. Performance of these
tasks can involve maximum physical exertion with little
or no prior notice, and possibly for extended periods
of time. May be exposed to extreme noise levels, occasional
exposure to communicable diseases and may subjected
to verbal and physical abuse.
